Road Conditions

It is important to check road conditions before travelling as most roads are unsealed and can become impassable after rain.

The roads heading towards Mungo from the north – from either Broken Hill and Menindee via Pooncarie, or from Wilcannia via Ivanhoe – are more difficult but interesting, where you cross the Darling River.

Outside holiday time, there is generally very little traffic, so visitors are encouraged to carry water. Look out for cows, sheep, kangaroos and emus which often graze on the roadsides.
