An Ancient Landscape
Mungo National Park is the heart of the Willandra Lakes Region World Heritage Area. Once a vibrant system of freshwater lakes, they gradually dried up over 14,000 years ago.
What remains today is the spectacular "Walls of China" – a remarkable 33km long continuous lunette of sand and clay formations sculpted over millennia by wind and rain. Arriving here is often described by our guests as stepping onto the surface of another planet.
